Measure What Matters:
Advancing Human-Centered Impacts in the Clean Energy Workforce
Join Illinois Green Alliance for a virtual education session that examines how to evaluate clean energy and workforce programs using outcome-based metrics that reflect real impacts on comfort, affordability, health, and access to opportunity.
As the clean energy transition accelerates, the industry faces a critical challenge: moving beyond counting outputs to understanding real human impacts. What gets measured drives what gets prioritized, and too often, programs emphasize activity metrics —like the number of rebates distributed, projects completed, or homes weatherized—rather than whether those investments actually improve conditions for people and communities.
This session brings together theory and real-world application to explore how a shift toward human-centered, outcome-driven approaches can strengthen clean energy and workforce development efforts. Panelists will examine the intersection of workforce development, the role of the built environment, and systemic inequities, often shaped by factors like zip code and access, that determine who benefits from the transition.
Participants will leave better equipped to reconsider metrics, shift mindsets, and implement strategies that drive equitable, measurable, and lasting impact in the clean energy transition.
Learning objectives:
- Differentiate between outputs and outcomes in evaluating energy, workforce, and equity impacts.
- Analyze how equity-centered evaluation frameworks can improve program design, accountability, and long-term outcomes.
- Apply human-centered strategies, including community-informed metrics and lived experience, to define and measure meaningful success.
- Assess workforce development systems by identifying gaps in retention, employer readiness, and support services.
- Align equity outcomes with technical and performance goals in clean energy, building efficiency, and decarbonization initiatives.
Speakers:
- Chyanne Husar, Founder and CEO, HUSARCH)
- Omoanatse McCarther, Senior Project Manager, The JPI Group
- Quinn Parker, Founder and CEO, Encolor
